New Adventure: Spring Break

I found myself at loose ends after Mardi Gras. The campground emptied out for the most part and I was left to recover from the revelry in the newly calm and quiet atmosphere — and the rain quit, yeah!

A Dog Story — Little Henry the Jack Russell Terrier

Little Henry is a Jack Russell that has free run of the camper park. Everyone loves him and he makes us all smile whenever he shows up. Of course, we spoil him miserably with treats and lovin’. But to tell you his story, I have to first tell you about Mrs. Greene and Mr. Bloomberg.

The Florida Snowbirds

Technically, a snowbird is someone who overwinters in Florida to escape their home state’s weather. They usually have a second home or at least a semi-permanent mobile home in a park. I’m hanging with another type of snowbird — the RV crowd.

Camper Mania

I’ve been on the road for a week, and it’s time for an update.

Here’s what I ended up buying: A “Scamper” 16ft camper trailer. All fiberglass, towing weight 1,700lbs. This is what it looks like:

Outback Australia

Take a look at the satellite image below. Notice the very few green spots. Now, imagine driving from Melbourne (lower green spot) all the way north to Darwin (upper green spot). The outback is almost all the stuff between. The color on the satellite picture is pretty much the color of the landscape. Yellow, brownish red. Dusty, dry, sometimes too hot to breathe.
